The real power of fruit, beyond the sugar myth

Fibre, vitamins, fullness: fruit isn't the enemy. Let's separate fact from fiction.

Un assortiment de fruits rouges frais

“Fruit is just sugar.” I hear it every week. It's one of the shortcuts that deprives the most women of a simple, practical, filling food.

What the shortcut forgets

Whole fruit never arrives alone. It comes with its fibre, its water, its vitamins and minerals. That combination changes how it's digested, and how full it leaves you.

The difference that really counts

It isn't between fruits, but in their form. Whole fruit occupies you for minutes and fills you. A juice, even freshly pressed, is drunk in thirty seconds and leaves the fibre behind.

  • Whole rather than juiced, whenever possible.
  • With some protein or nuts if you get hungry soon after.
  • As dessert or as a snack: both work.

If you live with diabetes or specific medical monitoring, the guidance is different and it's your doctor who sets it.
